I am a real fan of doing a Jigsaw and find I can while away a good few hours relaxing, just sitting, sorting, and putting together the picture. Sometimes life seems like a jigsaw puzzle a box full of mixed-up pieces that need sorting and sifting until the picture comes together. But we have a creator God who loves us for just who we are. Here are a few lines from a favourite poem of mine that remind me of this.

Fit me in somewhere in,
in this giant Jigsaw God,
Somewhere in this work of art you are working.
select a space my shape can fill…

God uses each of us in our unique and individual way and has part for us to play and a place for everyone to fit just like a puzzle and we are all part of the big picture. In the bible in psalm 139 we are reminded that we are all wonderfully made and known and loved by God in all the ups and downs of life, we always have God beside us.

Here are few things I have learnt about life from a jigsaw.

  1. When things are not going so well, take a break. Everything will look different when you return.
  2. Be sure to look at the big picture. Getting hung up on the little pieces only leads to frustration.
  3. The creator of the puzzle gave you the picture as a guidebook. Refer to the Creator’s guidebook often.
  4. Perseverance pays off. Every important puzzle went together bit by bit, piece by piece.
  5. When one spot stops working, move to another. But be sure to come back later!
  6. Variety is the spice of life. It is the assorted colours and patterns that make the puzzle interesting.
  7. Working together with friends and family makes any task fun.
  8. Establish the border first. Boundaries give a sense of security and order.
  9. Don’t be afraid to try different combinations. Some matches are surprising.
  10. Take time often to celebrate your successes (even little ones).

When you finally reach the last piece, do not be sad. Rejoice in the masterpiece you have made and enjoy a well-deserved rest, just as God did when he created the world God saw all that he had made, and it was good. On the seventh day God rested!

Happy puzzling
