Risby Gold Eco Church looks lovely in the warm sunshine. This important habitat in the centre of the village is a haven for insects and wildlife and is carefully managed by the church PCC and our Eco Officer, Jackie. Numerous wildflowers grow amidst the variety of different grasses and along the perimeter of the building and wall, complementing the area outside along the public pathways. Our swift calling system has already attracted interest from swifts flying overhead and we hope they will take up residence in them soon!
Our hedgehogs live in the undergrowth so please take particular care – especially if you are cutting any areas around the graves. Injuries are sadly very common, and particularly worrying as hedgehogs are on the red list. Whilst sitting in our contemplation garden on the left side of the church, bees were savouring the nectar of the foxgloves and the aroma of the rosemary filled the air. God’s creation is indeed most wonderful, and we should tend and treasure it to the best of our ability.
